IFAD is a specialized agency of the United Nations established as an international financial institution (IFI). Headquartered in Rome, Italy, IFAD is the only IFI with a specific mandate to reduce rural poverty through investments in agriculture and rural development. It provides low-interest loans and grants to developing countries to finance innovative agricultural and rural development programs and projects, while paying particular attention to women, youth and local communities.
